After the pizza luncheon and Q&A session with the Dr. Law regarding the new Pathways Program. Four of the executive board members of the club personally met with Dr. Law to briefly introduce the Solar Carport Project, and get any initial insight from the president of the college on this project. Dr. Law's feedback on the initial introduction was met with great support but had a few concerns regarding the funding. The next step for the Solar Carport Committee will be to research ways to gain investors for the project.
With cooperation from a professional architect, Committee Chairmen Devin was able to finish the first draft of the proposed layout for the solar carport. The current estimate of the surface area is 205,600 square feet, initially we projected the adequate coverage of our lot would produce two megawatts but recent estimates show that we can theoretically generate more then two megawatts with this design. The next draft will contain a hand drawn street view of what the solar carport would look like. We're going to discuss possible future drafts for the purposes of a street view with the assistance of the professional who rendered our first draft.
On the meeting of 9/26/2016, Committee Chairmen Devin Bowersox announces he is close to finishing the first draft of the Solar Carport blueprint rendering. The renderings are a joint effort from the committee and a professional architect. One of the last pieces of information needed to complete the rendering is the approximate surface area for each solar panel to calculate the needed area to create the solar covering of the parking lot and additionally to make sure we have the necessary total surface area of solar panels to generate two megawatts of energy for the campus.
On the meeting of 9/19/2016, committee chairmen Devin Bowersox discusses his meeting with the Provost. Devin announces the meeting was very successful, and that the Provost was very impressed with the overall idea and planning of the project so far, and gave a positive feedback to project. The Provost also proposed a few questions for the committee to discuss on the project, but the most important question was "Why would this project be the best use of college funds?". Additionally the club will be touring the Oldsmar Lockheed Martin Facility which has its own solar carport. The club will be able to meet with engineers at the facility to research the development of their solar carport. The Provost wants to reconvene after our Lockheed Martin tour to discuss our findings, the Provost also recommended to later meet with the president of the college, Dr. Law.
On the FES meeting of 9/12/2016, Committee Chairmen of the Solar carport Committee, Devin Bowersox was able to get a copy of the SPC Clearwater Campus blueprints. The plan is to map out where it would we best to locate the Solar panels in the parking lot for maximum efficiency of creating a two megawatt solar carport. The next step is for Devin to meet with the Provost to discuss the future of the project. The members that day also we brainstormed possible concerns that the Provost might ask during the meeting.
The Solar Carport Project is about convincing the college to construct a solar panel covered parking lot that would provide shade for both student and faculty cars. This would also be able to generate approximatly two megawatts of energy to completely sustain the campus.
The Solar Carport Project Committee is led by Committee Chairmen Devin Bowersox and is published on the website journal by Secretary and Historian Committee Chairman, Azher Hamid.
